CPF Sponsored CORSA Mini Convention
05/18/2021 - 05/23/2021 08:00 AM
Crowne Plaza Springfield Hotel - Springfield

CORSA's Mini Convention in Springfield, Illinois is set for May 18-23, 2021 and the Crown Plaza Springfield booking link is up and running.

This event is to celebrate the new Corvair Museum, located on the famed “Mother Road,” Route 66, just south of Springfield. We have a full fun packed four days taking shape for your enjoyment.

Back in 2019, PCCA decided to up its game and host a mini convention to support the
CPF and the Corvair Museum. Like many events in 2020, the mini and national conventions
were postponed to 2021. Early in 2021, things are looking better but things are still tough.
So, PCCA decided to up its game a little more and added an autocross and more tech
sessions. Although this is not a National Convention, PCCA is striving to provide a fun
Corvair event where Corvair enthusiasts can get together, met and make friends and enjoy
their Corvairs.

Yes, the mini Convention and Aviation Spectacular is still on for May 18-22, 2021.
However, the Covid-19 pandemic is not over. Mask wearing will be required indoors, social
distancing is strongly encouraged and capacity limits may apply. In the unexpected event
that the Mini must be cancelled for 2021, PCCA will refund all registration fees. If you
still want that t-shirt you ordered, we will mail it to you, subtracting the cost for the t-shirt from your refund. For details, see

Concours will be held Wednesday May 19 with operations checks and classification done
on the afternoon of Tuesday May 18 and again, for those unable to make Tuesday, very early Wednesday morning. The Concours will use the same CORSA rules as the National convention. In fact, Concours Chair Ray Morales is expected to attend and help lead the judging along with Mitchell award winner Jim Allen of PCCA. The judges will rotate amongst a group of five cars at a time judging each section - Paint and Body, Trim and Trunk, Wheels and Glass, Undercarriage, Engine, Operations and Interior.

On Thursday, an autocross has been added. Again, National rules will be used. The exact
location has not been determined, but we should be able to allow spectators. This is a great
event to learn how to drive and handle your Corvair. Both novice and experienced
auto-crossers will navigate their Corvairs around a parking lot through a sea of cones in an
attempt to be the fastest in their class. There are lots of classes for every skill and prep level. Speaking from experience, that sea of cones is not that bad. You will have an opportunity to walk the course, watch others run the course and if you get lost, someone will help you finish the course successfully, and maybe even help you finish quicker than you thought possible. It is a low speed timed event with enough excitement to make you smile.

Thursday night is movie night at the Route 66 Drive-in Movie Theater. We are in contact
with the drive-in owner so hopefully a car related movie will be shown. There are two screens so everyone will have options. Each side has a picnic and playground areas just under the screen.

Friday is another busy, but relaxing day. The Road Rally will meander its way from the host
hotel to the Aviation Spectacular. Participants will then be recorded as “off the clock” to explore the many Corvair powered aircraft at the airport. Before you leave, you will check in again to finish the Rally. Those not wanting to do the Rally itself may obtain directions in the Hospitality room. – Short cut for the Rally? Well, maybe, but you will earn a DQ, disqualification. The Rally is your typical time distance rally with questions to be answered along the route.

Friday will also feature tours of the Corvair Museum – and that evening, Dinner at the
Museum - catered by the local Scouts BSA troop.
Tours of the museum will be available all
week, but Friday is that special day where we hope to get as many Corvairs outside the
Museum as inside. Keep in mind, indoor capacity may be limited due to guidelines.

Saturday is People’s Choice Car display day. A final day to visit with fellow Corvair
enthusiasts, visit the indoor and outdoor vendors to obtain that “just got to have” item, and
relax. The awards banquet will be held that evening with William Wynne giving a presentation about the history of Corvair flight.

Whew. I’m tired just thinking about all the fun stuff to do. Sleep in Sunday, have a late breakfast with you Corvair friends and then drive safely home.

The Host Hotel is the Crowne Plaza in Springfield Illinois. This is the same grand location as used for the 2016 National Convention - a Car meet friendly location with large spaces to handle large conventions and meetings. The Host hotel is just a few miles from the Corvair Museum. Of course, Springfield offers all the Lincoln sites and numerous Historic Route 66 sites. Registration form is on the dust cover and the CORSA web site in pdf format. On-line, Electronic registration is also available.
